November Pet of the Month: Herbert King
Herbert is a 4-year-old toy poodle and bichon frisé mix, originally from Indianola, Iowa. While he's a tiny dog, he has a big personality and regularly protects his home from other dogs by barking at them through the window at a safe distance. He is in constant need of attention, though that bodes well when he needs to visit the groomer or veterinarian. Herbert enjoys walks, snacks, and toys that crinkle (including an odd obsession with plastic bottles that crinkle).

Meet Herbert's dad: Professor Andy King
Andy J. King, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Communication, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences, and Member of the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah. His research centers on strategic health communication, especially around cancer. That research examines best practices in multimodal communication content design and evaluation, as well as how people engage with health information in the public communication environment. Increasingly, his work examines how artificial intelligence tools like multimodal large language models can be used to facilitate communication content design and improve the quality and implementation of interactive digital health communication tools. His research has been funded by federal agencies including the National Cancer Institute, the Health Resources and Services Administration, and the United States Department of Agriculture. At Utah, he teaches courses related to health and science communication, research methods, and communication skills.
